What are eco-friendly products?
Eco-friendly products are products that are produced through sustainable processes and provide socio-economic and environmental benefits. Most of these products come in either recycled packaging or recyclable containers. They are great alternatives to products that we are used to with the added benefit of being friendly to our environment.
Plastic wastes are everywhere and the most common waste found scattered, littered or buried in landfills are single-use plastics. Unfortunately, it takes thousands of years for these wastes to decompose and we are already experiencing their adverse effects on the environment. Reducing our use of plastic based products or completely eliminating them from our lifestyle is something that each of us should consider.
We have a dire need for changes and we should change fast before itís too late for us to save our planet. This is where eco products come in.
Products become friendly to the environment when they are made using natural materials that are sustainable and require less energy. By reducing our carbon footprint, we can at least impede the deterioration of our environment.
Going green and switching to eco-friendly alternatives can be difficult to start with especially that plastics have been part of our lives for very long. But fear not, once you have already started living green, you will never be going back and you will definitely love it.
Plastic free or Eco-friendly products
If you have already decided to go green, you might be wondering where you should start making some changes. We recommend starting with the products you use in your bathroom.
The bathroom has the most number of single-use plastic products. A quick scan of your entire bathroom will help you identify products you need to ditch for their more eco-friendly counterpart. Start with your toothbrush. There are already bamboo toothbrushes available online that uses bamboo handles instead of plastic with castor oil rich bristles. Curanatura, Hydrophil and Truthbrush are examples of brands that sell biodegradable toothbrush. Truthbrush even uses recyclable cardboard pillow pack for the packaging. Each of their toothbrushes are made from bamboo, a highly sustainable material does not require irrigation to grow.
Shampoo bottles can be replaced with solid shampoo bars. Lamazunaís solid shampoo bars are great examples along with Three Hills Soapís beautiful variation of scented shampoo bars. Plastic razors can also be replaced with safety razors from Norse. Their range of razors come in double edged ones that have heads with refillable blades.
Deodorants can also be replaced with natural ones made from arrowroot and other natural ingredients. Most of these natural deodorants come in cardboard tubes while the crystal stick variants come in cork casings. Cotton swabs have eco-friendly alternatives too such as the ones from Ecoliving, Curanatura and Hydrophil. The list goes on inside the bathroom and when you step out, there other areas of your house with products that can be replaced easily with eco-friendly alternatives.
