Is a Shampoo Bar Better Than Liquid Shampoo
Shampoo bars have been around for many years and were considered a niche product until recently. Due to environmental concerns and change in lifestyle, more people are making a switch from bottled shampoos to shampoo bars.
Plastic waste has become a global problem that many countries and organisations are trying to solve. Many industry experts suggest better waste management as a way to reduce the impact of plastic waste while the majority of environmentalists are calling for a total plastic ban.
Shampoo Bar vs Liquid Shampoo
As individuals, we can help reduce our plastic waste by simply switching to more eco-friendly alternatives to the usual products that we use regularly. A good example is shampoo. Thereís a huge difference between shampoo bars and liquid shampoo in terms of chemical composition, ingredients and packaging.
Liquid shampoos contain loads of synthetic chemicals and preservatives like parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), triclosan, polysorbates and many more. These chemicals strip off moisture from our hair and are linked to a long list of hair and scalp problems.
Shampoo bars, on the other hand, do not contain any of the aforementioned chemicals. They are made with natural ingredients and infused with pure essential oils and botanicals like coconut oil, peppermint, olive oil and castor oil that nourish our hair and scalp. Some solid shampoo contains fresh lemon juice and lemon peel that helps deep clean hair and scalp. They come scented naturally but there are unscented variants available too. Thereís a wide selection to choose from depending on personal tastes, preferences, hair types and needs. They are often homemade in small batches but there are many brands that produce them in bulk.
Conventional liquid shampoos come in plastic bottles that end up in landfills and oceans once theyíre discarded while shampoo bars on the other hand have minimal packaging and often come in eco-friendly packaging materials like cardboard and jute strings.
Shampoo bars are convenient to bring with you when youíre travelling. Due to their small form factor, you can toss them inside your bag without having to worry about leakage and spillage. Just pack it and youíre good to go.
While using shampoo bars have more benefits than their bottled counterparts, some people are still hesitant in making the switch. Most likely this reluctance is due to the common perception that it would require a lot of effort and time to change something that we have been doing for a very long time. Regardless of their reasons, the environmental impact of bottled shampoos alone should convince you to make the switch to shampoo bars.
Start Using Shampoo Bars
We should always keep in mind that thereís no planet B. Itís important that we reduce our plastic use to help save our environment and start living sustainably before itís too late. We can start small like ditching single use plastic and switching to eco-friendly alternatives. Thereís no question that shampoo bars are far better than liquid shampoo. Theyíre good for our hair and the environment.
