How to Wear a Baby Sling With a Ring?
A baby sling with a ring on it or most popularly called a ring sling is a type of baby carrier that uses dynamic tension. It usually includes a cloth and two rings. Ring slings can vary from unpadded to padded shoulders and edges or with the tail open or closed.
Ring slings are versatile and can be worn by almost all parents because of its one size fits all sizing. The length of the cloth can also vary depending on the user’s preference. Some can range to measure up about the hips or on the mid thigh. They also allow multiple carrying positions such as back, hip and front carry. Many parents love them because they are unique, comfortable to use, and stylish.
If you are planning on using a ring sling for babywearing, here’s a few things you need to know and consider.
The first thing you need to do is choose what type of carrying position. If it is the right hip or left, place the rings on the shoulder opposite to the hip you may want to carry the baby. Next is to spread the fabric over the back using one hand and hold the tail with the other. Make sure that the fabric is not twisted by grabbing the rails and spreading the sling.
Hold and fold the cloth in one hand and pass the tail through the rings. By this time, the edges should not be twisted. Next is to separate the rings. After this, pass the tail over the upper ring and under the bottom ring and spread the fabric evenly on the rings. Both the rails should be accessible. If this is done correctly, the rings on your shoulder should move down slightly when the sling is adjusted.
Baby into the sling
Now that you have properly prepared the sling, it is now ready to be occupied by your baby. The first thing to do is to place the baby against the shoulder opposite the fabric. Place the baby inside, carefully. You may want to use a spotter if you are still unsure. Next is to place the lower rail of the sling under the baby’s bum and spread it from knee to knee. Finally, spread the wrap neatly over the baby’s back.
- Make sure that the baby’s bum is fully supported by the fabric.
- If needed, tighten the wrap to the bottom.
- Position the baby in an “M” position or the frog position.
- Spread the sling on the shoulder.
- Make sure that the rings should be placed just under the collarbone and the sling is far from the neck.
