How to use beeswax wraps?
Beeswax wraps are very flexible in terms of their uses. They can be used in a wide variety of ways like wrapping food, jar cover and many more. They are reusable and eco-friendly that you do not have to use any other wraps like cling film or single use plastic.
The kitchen is a place where most single-use plastics are found. Technically, we wouldn’t want to reuse plastic over and over again for our food so as not to cross contaminate them. We use plastic so much in so many things such as covering jars, wrapping food, packaging snacks and many more but did you know that the same purposes are provided by beeswax wraps?
Take a look at these tips on how beeswax wraps can be incorporated and used in your daily activities.
From closing bottles and jars to wrapping food
Beeswax food wraps are certified eco-friendly when used as a food wrap. These wraps will keep your food fresh for a longer period of time. You can use it to bring your homemade sandwich with you to school, work and picnics.
These wraps are so easy to use and can adapt to the shape of your food. You need to hold it down a bit when you wrap it around your food. Made primarily from beeswax, the warmth of your hands will enable the wrap to adapt to the shape of the food and in a couple of seconds, the wax will cool down which will keep the form.
When used in closing bottles and jars, the same method is used. You need to tighten the wrap on the container, fold the edge and hold it. Once the bottle is closed properly, the wrap will seal the contents to avoid spillage. This is also credited to the unique characteristic of beeswax wrap: its stickiness. The stickiness of the wrap helps keep the wrap closed or folded whichever way you want.
Since beeswax food wraps can be used in storing food in the fridge, they can also be used in the freezer too. While food can last for about two to three weeks inside a beeswax wrap, you still need to check the freshness of the food even if these wraps allow your food to breathe.
Important thing to note is to never use beeswax food wraps on hot pots, food or in covering containers with hot food inside. Beeswax melts easily when exposed to high temperature.
Various sizes for various items
You can choose different sizes of beeswax for different items and use them for tons of purposes you want.
Small fruits, pieces of vegetables or for snacks, the small sizes which are approximately 7” x 7” in dimension are recommended. Medium sizes of approximately 10” x 10” are ideal for cheese, sandwich, bakeries or for bigger fruits or vegetables.
These wraps come in bigger sizes too. They can be used as covering for dishes and bowls. They can also be used in loaves of bread, sandwiches, cookies and cakes. Plus, the bigger sizes also come in various shapes such as a square one of a rectangular one. You will be surprised that you can cover a whole baguette using a rectangular shaped beeswax wrap.
You can easily wash your beeswax wraps with a little bit of dish liquid, soft brush and cold water. Begin by soaking them in water and gently brushing them. Rinse off the dish soap under running water and let it dry completely.
These wraps are durable so if you take good care of them, they will last for about a year before you need them replaced. When your beeswax is worn out, cracks start to appear. It is highly recommended that you replace them right away.
A little more to finish
Beeswax wraps are wonderful plastic-free alternatives to single-use plastic. They help reduce pollution, help promote zero-waste and plastic-free living. These wraps can be used in so many ways and maintaining them is easy and simple.
