Cotton swabs have many different uses, from personal hygiene to cleaning. They are a versatile and handy tool to have around. From our previous guides to how to clean ears safely and how to remove stubborn ear wax, we know that cotton swabs are most well known for cleaning earwax. But what else can you use them for?
Here are ten different ways to use cotton swabs:
To apply or remove nail polish
If you are having a manicure then cotton buds are your new best friend. You can use them to apply or remove your nail polish with ease. They are great as a nail polish remover as they really get into the edges with ease.
To cleanse your face
Cotton swabs are great for cleansing your face and removing makeup residue. Simply soak the cotton swab in some micellar water or cleanser and gently wipe away any dirt or makeup.
To fix a beauty mishap
We’ve all been there, you’re doing your makeup and you make a mistake. Whether it’s smudging your mascara or getting lipstick on your teeth, cotton swabs can help fix any beauty mishap on your face or skin.
To remove earwax & nose gunk
As we mentioned before, cotton swabs are most commonly used to remove earwax from your ear canal. You can also use them to clean out any contamination in your nose, but again do so with caution!
To apply or remove eye makeup
Q tips are great for applying and removing eye makeup. They are gentle on the eyes and help to get into all the nooks and crannies. They are great for removing eyeliner which has gone astray, they've saved me on many a makeup mishap!

Cotton buds can also be used to clean your phone or computer screen. Simply wipe away any dirt or smudges with a moistened cotton swab.
To apply cream or ointment to a wound
When you have a cut or scrape, use a cotton bud to apply some antibiotic cream or ointment. This will help keep the area clean and protected.
To apply false eyelashes
Applying false eyelashes can be tricky but with a few cotton buds, it becomes a lot easier. Apply some glue to the band of the lashes and then stick them to your eyelid. Hold in place for a few seconds until the glue sets.

If you’re out of Band-Aids, a cotton swab can be used as a temporary adhesive bandage. Just wrap the cotton swab around the affected area and hold in place with some tape.

Cotton swabs can also be used to pick up small objects like coins or jewelry. Simply dip the end of the cotton swab in some water and then use it to grab onto the object.
To apply eye shadow
If you want to create a smoky eye look, then you need some good eye shadow. Apply the eye shadow with a brush but for precision, use a cotton swab. This will help you to get into all the small areas and create a flawless look.

Cotton swabs can also be used as a cotton ball substitute. This is handy when you’re doing something that requires a lot of cotton balls, like using them to apply toner to your face or even for clearing out an infection.
